The Future

I have found a way to send a video message back to myself in 1990. This is what I had to say to myself.

Stupid Lights

This is supposed to be a remake/adaptation of Geoff's Lights video. His is awesome. Mine is weak. I might try this again another night.

Sorry about the length, but it's pretty jam-packed.

Stay tuned later this month for a bonus viewer's commentary (that was my original plan for this).

Apparently listening to LCD Soundsystem before leaving work led both Kyle and I to make videos using their tracks. His, however, is entertaining.

Welcome to VCAM 1

basic guidelines and philosophy

the goal is to make a one minute (minimum) film every day for the month of february. we want to encourage less thinking and more making, to just make 28 ideas into reality and figure it out later if they are any good or not. don't think, just do. most of us have jobs and other crap to work around, but that is what it is all about: having very little time and making the best of your surroundings.

rules

-one one minute (minimum) film needs to be online by the time you go to bed each day of february. the first day for this will be february 1, 2010.
-the link to the film will be posted on the official VCAM 1 hub at http://vcam1.blogspot.com/ invites to this are forthcoming. it can also be posted to facebook since we are all on there too.
-we haven't decided on where to upload films too, but i think facebook is out because they video player sucks. I personally like vimeo because it looks nice and is easy to use, but i think we can leave this up to the participant.
-you are allowed to use any camera you desire, and quality is not a factor whatsoever
-you are allowed to preshoot things for use in other days films. for example, shooting a scene on day 5 for use in your day 6 film. you are not allowed to fully complete films ahead of time though.
-there are no penalties for not completing a film except for falling behind, and i assume a certain amount of shaming from other participants.

tags

-this is a list of checkpoints that you must hit at some point during the month. they can be doubled up, and tripled up as needed. they are also intended as a loose guideline, and as long as you can defend applying a certain label to your film, it is cool. I am expecting and hoping for a certain amount of trash talking about this as people stretch the meanings of these.

the list

musical
animation (any form)
music video (using any music)
single shot film
documentary
all found footage (any source)
silent film
all still images film
a sweded film (a remake of a recognizable film)
horror
science fiction
a piece of advertising
an instructional film (teaching how to do something)
foreign language film
mystery

special valentines day halfway celebration

on february 14, the halfway point of VCAM 1, there is a special day. Your film for the day is going to be a remake of another participants film, chosen by them. your film choice will be emailed to you on the morning of the 14th, so you can review it and set out to make your own version.

i think that covers pretty much everything. If we can confirm all participants, i can send out blogger invites and we can do some test posts or something.

so far confirmed are

duncan
